Washington According to US military strategist Jeffrey Edmonds, the new Russian strategy of focusing on secession of individual parts of Ukraine has little chance of success.

Edmonds is a Russia expert at the think tank CNA. CNA is a nonprofit research and analytics organization based in Arlington, Virginia, whose clients include the US Department of Defense.

Edmonds himself served in the US Army for two decades and previously advised the White House on Russia issues as director of the National Security Council. At the CIA he worked as a military analyst. In an interview with the Handelsblatt, he explains why Russia will not invade other countries and why the danger of an escalation is nevertheless increasing.
