Russia Rolls Up Hands To Produce Its Own Chip

In the face of the sanctions Russia faced, its new method was to invest in its own chip production. Local chip production will be supported by a new investment of approximately $38 billion.

The beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine also gave the start of unprecedented sanctions against the Russians. The sanctions, which have been going on since the first days, have gradually increased and many leading companies in the Russian sector are now deprived of their cutting-edge technologies.

Russia, on the other hand, ended its cooperation with the International Space Station in the face of these sanctions and demanded the end of the sanctions. However, the termination of these cooperation did not bring an end to the sanctions for Russia. For this reason, Russia began to look for new ways out. After the chip crisis and sanctions that continued all over the world, Russia started preparations to produce its own chips.

Russia plans to invest $38 billion in chip production

The Russian government stopped looking for a way out of Western countries after chip industry pioneers such as Intel and AMD suspended their activities in the country and stopped supplying chips to Russia. Russia, which received a big blow from TSMC, one of the local chip production leaders in the country, rolled up its sleeves to produce its own chips. For this too 3.19 trillion rubles ($38.3 billion) investment Russia, which plans to make this investment, will divide this investment under four main headings: Local semiconductor manufacturing, local chip development, chip marketing, and training local talent.

Of course, although there is a much longer road ahead, Russia sees this investment as the biggest step in getting rid of dependency on Western countries and other companies in the future. Currently, it is on the agenda to produce native chips using 90 nm nodes by the end of the year. Evolving towards the production of 28 nm chips, similar to the chips produced by TSMC by 2030 is planned. It is becoming more and more unlikely that Russia will take calmer decisions to get rid of these sanctions and end the occupation in Ukraine. Obviously, Russia is getting used to living with these sanctions and insists on trying to live as if they only have their own country in the world. The biggest proof of this is that he does not care about his worsening economy.
