Russia continues to ban technologies from Western countries. With the decision taken by the Federal Security Service (FSB), Apple products in the country were restricted. This decision means that the use of iPhones in Russian government offices will be prohibited.
iPhone, iPad and Mac will not be used in Russian government offices
The Russian government has announced that Apple devices are prohibited from being used by government officials. The new law, which prohibits government employees from using products such as iPhone, iPad, Mac for work, was taken as a cyber security step against the USA.
According to the file released by the FSB a while ago, US intelligence agencies use Apple products in their espionage operations. Other government agencies, such as the Russian Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Telecommunications and Communications, announced that they want to implement similar bans.
M3 Mac models arrive earlier than expected!
Preparations for Mac models with M3 processors have accelerated. Accordingly, new iMacs and MacBooks will be introduced with a launch in October.
The FSB said that Apple, in cooperation with US intelligence, allowed the conversations on these devices to be monitored. It also claimed to embed special tracking software in operating systems such as iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS.
The ban will only apply to government-related business. In other words, government employees will be able to continue to use Apple products for their personal work.
Apple, on the other hand, underlined that it does not cooperate with any government to create a backdoor in its products. The company stressed that it is committed to protecting the security of its devices and user privacy. After Russia attacked Ukraine, Apple suspended Apple Pay services in the country and stopped selling its products in Russia.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that businesses related to information infrastructure should switch to software developed by Russia by 2025. The latest ban on Apple devices represents a reduction in reliance on foreign technology companies.
