Retirement at 40 or 50: This is how it can work

Dusseldorf Many people occasionally dream of quitting their job and just doing what they feel like doing. Followers of the so-called FIRE movement (“Financial Independence, Retire Early”) have developed strategies to make the dream of early retirement come true.

Markus Hinterberger, chief reporter in the Handelsblatt investment team, has dealt intensively with the topic and, using fictitious case studies, has calculated how much one would have to earn and put aside each month in order to be able to afford such a life. “Frugalism is the cornerstone of early retirement,” says Hinterberger.

An earlier pension is not possible without a frugal lifestyle. In addition, a large proportion of one’s own assets must be invested in order to achieve the goal. “In the beginning, you should invest fully in stock ETFs,” recommends Hinterberger. One should try to represent the global economy in the form of ETFs.
