US shopping giant Walmart seems to be stepping into the Metaverse world with its plans to create its own cryptocurrency and NFT collection.
The retail giant revealed its intention to trade virtual goods late last month by filing trademark applications for a range of products, including electronics, home decor, toys, sporting goods and personal care products.
Separately, the company made a new application and announced that it will offer its customers NFT and a kind of virtual currency.
According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Walmart filed these applications on December 30.
The company has a total of seven applications in this field. However, Walmart officials did not give any answers to the questions posed on the subject.

Trademark attorney Josh Gerben said: “There’s been a lot of hard work. From the steps companies take, we understand that there is a lot of hard work in the background on how they will approach cryptocurrencies and the Metaverse, the virtual worlds that have already entered our lives.”
According to Gerben, after Facbook changed its name to Meta and gave clues about its goals outside of the social media space, other institutions began to ponder how they could access virtual worlds.
In the past, clothing companies such as Nike, Adidas and Under Armor have stepped into the world of Metaverse.
