Featuring legendary cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and Jennifer Lawrence, Don’t Look Up has been released on Netflix. We attended the press conference of this movie, in which Adam McKay sat in the director’s chair, and listened to the opinions of the cast, such as the champions league, about the movie.

The new movie starring giants such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Timothee Chalamet Don’t Look Up, as of December 24 It took its place in the Netflix library.

Adam McKay, who has undersigned productions such as The Big Short and Vice, has done an incredibly impressive job by sitting in the director’s chair of Don’t Look Up. As Webtekno, we attended the press conference organized by Netflix and we participated in the press conference of Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lawrence. Giant actors’ opinions about the movie we got it.

Before we move on to the press conference: Why is Don’t Look Up worth watching?

It is very difficult to explain events that require expertise to another person, especially if the narrator is not an expert in the subject. That’s why we drown in some complex movies. Especially if the subject is serious, trying to catch the details. The farther we get from the gravity of the event, the further we get away. The first thing I can say about Don’t Look Up is an extremely serious and grave subject, just like Adam McKay did in The Big Short, as simple as possible, but at the same time high quality It is possible.

In the background of the film, there is a natural event that endangered human life, and we turn a blind eye to it. Going on like everything tastes like cotton candy and in this process, there are statesmen who think they are managing the crisis. But all of this is so funny – look, I’m not saying it’s tragicomic because sometimes you forget the main subject of the event by laughing – it is told that while trying to digest all the facts, you continue to laugh unintentionally.

As you watch the movie, I’m sure you’ll be amazed at how Adam McKay can tell such a serious subject so funny. I don’t even need to mention the cast. DiCaprio’s charisma is in the background this time, Jennifer Lawrence’s great acting and of course Meryl Streep’s role as if it were the same in real life, on both visual and mental feast quite ambitious.

DiCaprio: “It’s an honor for me to be a part of something like this”

Question: So far, you have taken various actions to protect biodiversity and climate change. What prompted you to act in a movie that tackles such issues through comedy?

Leonardo DiCaprio’s answer: I have been searching for a movie that deals with such a subject for many years. This was a topic where everyone was thinking about “how can I make a difference”, “how can we contribute to this cause”. I can say that Adam really broke the code with this style. There is so much that we can compare with this story in parallel with the climate crisis. The climate crisis, when we look at the event as a whole, is one of the topics that we all talk about most frequently and it requires such artists to change the way of expression. It’s a real honor for me to be a part of this.

“We practiced 50 times for a scene”

Question: You are very active in bringing awareness to environmental problems in real life. This is Dr. Did it make it easier for Mindy to have that speech? His speech in the movie is really hot. How did this talk affect your approach?

Leonardo DiCaprio’s answer: And much more. However, I must reiterate that this is not our area of expertise. But I spoke to you through the eyes of an astronomer, as if you were a climate scientist. And you’ve been extremely helpful in putting it all together. That’s exactly what Adam was trying to do when creating this movie and character. Adam and I worked on that conversation like 50 times. What I wanted to do in my speech was to reflect how disappointed the scientific world was. The man wrote this so cleverly that his message silenced all other voices.

“My character is trying to play inside the system”

leonardo dicaprio

Question: Recently, the perception of scientists in society has taken a hit. How did you feel playing a scientist in the movie? Do you think this movie will change the public’s perception of science and scientists?

Leonardo DiCaprio’s answer: Adam produced a film about the climate crisis that showed how science got involved in politics, but the sequel managed to create a sense of urgency with a comet hitting the earth in 6 months. There are alternative realities like this right now. I’m grateful for portraying someone from the scientific community who tries to convey the urgency of these facts but whose words seem to be on the last page of the papers.

There are many issues that we are drowning in right now. I really liked the portrayal of two different characters in the movie as well. Jen’s character is just like Greta Thunberg, who never spares her words, while my character tries to play within the system. But at the same time, I also love that he is incredibly honest these days when we are so far away from the truth. And as you know, the whole world has been hit by COVID-19 and it is really nice to be a part of such a movie at a time when scientific discussions continue.

Lawrence: “It was the scariest day of my life”

Jennifer Lawrence

Question: How long did it take you to memorize the Wu Tang song you sang at the beginning of the movie?

Jennifer Lawrence’s answer: I’ve been dying to say this. When I downloaded the song to my phone, I said to myself: “Okay, you’ve had enough. I said, ‘You should listen to this song now. It was quite difficult to memorize, and when it was later revealed that I had COVID, this became my first scene in the movie. Frankly, I was a little scared, because I was alone in a huge hangar and I didn’t know anyone and I had to say the Wu-Tang Clan. Of course, what we saw in the movie was only 5 seconds. I would really like to know ahead of time that I’m only going out for 5 seconds. I can say it was the scariest day of my life.

McKay: “You can’t fake laugh”

man mckay

Question: What was the mentality that went into turning such a serious, life-affirming subject into a movie that told through the lens of comedy? How did you achieve this?

Adam McKay’s answer: We were thinking about how we could address the climate crisis, which is arguably the biggest threat to human life, and we wanted to reflect that as if it were an animal attacking you. This feeling can be very tiring. But if you can laugh at it, you’ve put some distance in between, and I think that’s really important. You may feel urgency or sadness, but you can also add a little humor along with the sense of loss.

That’s exactly what we were aiming for in the movie. Wouldn’t it be nice to laugh or feel something else after some of the crazy events on this planet in the last 5, 10 years? That’s been our approach, because I think we’re facing a big apocalypse talk, which is pretty serious when it comes to climate change, but I thought it was important for people to laugh a little and distance themselves. This is also one of the most beautiful things that push people to a sense of unity. You can’t fake laugh, it’s not a political event.

Streep: “There are a lot of creepy scenes in the movie”

meryl streep

Question: When you learned about the comet at the Oval Table, you denied all the truth and pretended nothing had happened. What were the scenes where you felt the worst?

Meryl Streep’s answer: There are a lot of creepy scenes in the movie, but for some reason the scene where Tyler and Cate are sitting outside at the bar just as everything is getting worse has left me deeply touched. And I know it’s not so unusual, a lot of people do it all the time anyway.

Also I don’t want to give spoilers but the scene where Timothee Chalamet gives an idea to Jen was also very good. It was so obvious that this couldn’t be true, but we can still see a glimmer of hope.

Hill: “I have tremendous respect for DiCaprio”

jonah hill

Question: There are some really incredible names in the cast. What was the most interesting or important thing you discovered while working together?

Jonah Hill’s answer: Leo and I have been friends for a long time. I’ve always had an incredible amount of respect for where he spends his money and time. So not just a friend, someone talking about a big game there, but going for a walk in the evenings. I really have great respect for the man. I also learned how bored people are in the last 2 years while shooting. When I entered the room, some of the players were my friends, some I got to know for the first time. But I respect all of them like crazy. It was truly incredible to be able to laugh, think and create something at a time when everyone was confined to their homes. It was very emotional and meaningful to me.
