The impacts are getting closer, closer and closer. Pictures of destroyed residential buildings in Kyiv go around the world, and there are deaths every day. Many people have already fled the Ukrainian capital as Russian troops approach. Others remain, determined to defend their city, their country, their freedom.
The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to encourage them. Since the beginning of the war three weeks ago, he has addressed Ukrainians twice a day in video speeches. “Free people of a free country” – that’s how he begins his ten-minute speech on Wednesday night.
