According to the data announced by Eurostat, 26.7% of the citizens in Turkey lived under the risk of poverty and social exclusion. In 2019, this rate increased to 33.2%. In other words, about 1 in 3 people in the country are under these risks.

In 28 of the 36 countries whose data were collected, the risk of poverty decreased over the 4-year period. In 8 countries, the risk of poverty increased. The increase rates of these countries were as follows, respectively: Turkey 6.5%, Luxembourg 1.6%, Norway 0.9%, Switzerland 0.9%, France 0.3%, Sweden 0.3%, Estonia 0.1% and the Netherlands 0.1%.

When we leave the increase rates behind, the country with the highest risk of poverty in total, Albania with 50.8% it happened. Montenegro followed Albania with 36.3%, while Romania came third with 35.8%. While North Macedonia had 34.1% and Bulgaria 33.6%, Turkey ranked 6th with 33.2%.
