Portugal may impose sanctions on Huawei! So why?
Portugal’s Supreme Cyber Security Council made a remarkable statement last Thursday. In this statement, it was stated that Chinese origin companies such as Huawei and Huawei pose a high risk for wireless network connections in the country.
Following this statement, Portugal made a recommendation to local operators not to supply equipment for 5G technology from countries that are not members of the EU (European Union), NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) Union.

Speaking at Nanjing University, founder Ren Zhengfei made a statement about Huawei and the US embargo.
The Portuguese government, if it accepts the proposal submitted by the council, will allow Chinese companies to enter the country. 5G Infrastructure projects will be prohibited. A Huawei spokesperson said in an interview on the subject;
“Huawei has no prior knowledge and has not been consulted on this matter. Over the past 20 years, Huawei has worked with Portuguese operators to develop wireless networks and provide quality services that connect millions of people. We will continue to comply with all applicable laws and regulations and serve our Portuguese customers and partners who trust our products and services.”
Other European countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania could take a similar decision if Portugal imposes sanctions on Huawei and prohibits it from participating in connectivity infrastructure related projects. We will see this in the coming days.
