Berlin German medium-sized companies hardly rely on long-term contracts with their energy suppliers. This is shown by the current economic survey by the Mittelstandsverbund ZGV, in which 42,000 companies from 18 sectors took part. The results are available to the Handelsblatt.

Only two percent of those surveyed stated that they had secured their energy supply for more than three years. Around 58 percent have concluded contracts between one and three years. At 12 percent of the companies, the contracts run for a maximum of twelve months.

Due to the currently high energy prices and the uncertainty caused by the Ukraine war, 54 percent of the companies surveyed intend to take measures to increase energy efficiency. “Right now it is important to speed up energy efficiency measures even more,” said SME association CEO Ludwig Veltmann. Otherwise there was a risk of “existential bottlenecks”.
