Apple will use Nokia’s patents for 5G

The ongoing patent agreement between Nokia and Apple was to expire in 2023. Acting on this, the two companies announced that they signed a new long-term license agreement. Apple, which wants to use the work in the field of 5G technology, did not disclose how much it paid for the agreement.

It is working to adapt 5G technologies to Apple’s iPhone family. iPhone 12 or later models can work with certain carriers’ 5G networks. It prefers to use Nokia’s patent portfolio and innovative technologies in this regard.

Apple Vision Pro luxury version, which will be sold for 1 million TL, was introduced. So what does the product include to be sold at this price?

It is known that the technology giant has more than 5 thousand patents related to 5G technology and more than 20 thousand patents in total. Nokia may open these licenses to companies with which it has agreements. Among Nokia’s biggest customers are companies such as Apple and Samsung.

The collaboration between Nokia and Apple dates back to 2017, when the two companies had a legal dispute. As the previous agreement was about to expire, both parties opted to expand their cooperation and market their licenses to each other.

On the other hand, it should be reminded that Apple has been developing its own 5G modems for a while. The company, which already buys these parts from Qualcomm, may include its own modems in the iPhone SE 4 model.
