No information about the whereabouts of Wagner boss Prigozhin – blinking about Putin’s power: “You can see cracks appearing”

Baerbock: Power struggle in Russia is not over yet

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock does not believe that the power struggle in Russia will end after the withdrawal of the Wagner mercenary group. “It is still unclear what is happening there. I say very clearly what is happening there and not what happened there,” said the Green politician on Monday on the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg. It is still unclear what is happening with the different actors in Russia. The events of the weekend were obviously just “one act in this Russian drama”.

According to Baerbock, however, it is clear that Russian President Vladimir Putin is destroying his own country with the brutal war of aggression against Ukraine. “We also see the devastating consequences of the Russian war of aggression on Putin’s power system. (…) And we see massive cracks in Russian propaganda,” she said.

Regarding the role of Germany and the EU, Baerbock explained that they were not getting involved, but were analyzing the situation carefully because it also harbored risks that could not yet be assessed. “For us Europeans, it’s all about helping Ukraine to live in peace and freedom again,” she added. For this reason, the EU financial instrument, which is used to finance arms deliveries to Ukraine, among other things, is being increased by 3.5 billion euros, and Germany is making 45 more Gepard anti-aircraft tanks available by the end of the year.
