Berlin According to information from the Handelsblatt, Princeton University has made a job offer to Angela Merkel. Accordingly, the American elite university has jointly offered the former chancellor and her husband Joachim Sauer a guest professorship.

The university made the offer to Merkel nine months ago, and it was also sent to the former chancellor by letter. At the time, Merkel was still chancellor. Merkel then replied that she would only make a decision about her future after the end of her chancellorship, they say. So far, however, no response has been received from Merkel in Princeton.

In the past, other state leaders have accepted guest professorships at Princeton, such as former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer (Greens) in 2006.

Princeton is the fourth oldest university in the world and is one of the most respected universities alongside Yale and Harvard. It is also the university with the greatest wealth per student.
