NASA’s Action Plan Against Climate Crisis Released

Extreme temperatures, unstable rains or other extreme weather events continue to threaten the entire Earth. The effects of this global crisis are not far away, some governments and scientists are working to prevent the crisis.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) published a climate action plan aimed at preventing the destruction caused by climate change, climate observations, analysis and scientific research.

The climate crisis is affecting every aspect of NASA’s research facilities, equipment, vehicles and infrastructure. Agency; It conducts extensive climate research that includes the movements of the sun, sea level rise, ocean and atmospheric temperatures, the ozone layer, air pollution, greenhouse gas levels, and changes in sea ice and land ice. NASA’s action plan to deal with the climate crisis has been published.

According to the main items in the action plan, NASA;

• Risk reduction studies will begin by identifying climate changes that pose a risk in access to space.
• It will look for ways to adapt to climate changes by creating a climate crisis risk analysis.
• It will integrate climate change into risk analysis and resilience planning. Possible problems will be determined beforehand and operation and maintenance processes will be developed.
• By updating climate modeling, it will prevent threats and security vulnerabilities posed by the climate crisis.
• Thanks to the new generation climate models, it will produce up-to-date data about the Earth’s water and energy cycle. A connection will be established between NASA climate science data and Geographic Information Systems.
• It will identify aviation communities that are impacted by climate change and collaborate to develop and implement solutions for companies that impact climate.
