Berlin The general manager of the Association of Towns and Municipalities, Gerd Landsberg, has spoken out in favor of a constitutional amendment in order to be able to help refugees more quickly and with less bureaucracy. “Precisely because the issue of migration will be at the center of politics for many years to come, we need long-term and sustainable solutions and not always new, questionable compromises from prime ministerial conference to prime ministerial conference,” Landsberg told the Handelsblatt.

The task of migration, integration and care for refugees should therefore be included in the catalog of joint tasks of the federal, state and local authorities according to Article 91a of the Basic Law. “This determination would also ensure that the federal and state governments each have to bear half of the costs.”
