Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank also paid a visit to Silicon Valley after the CES 2023 fair held in Las Vegas. Here, he first met with company executives at the headquarters to bring Google’s automotive work to Turkey.
Immediately after, he went to the headquarters of Tesla, one of the largest electric car manufacturers in the world, and held talks on both Togg and Tesla Turkey. He also examined the work of the company on site. Finally, he went to Stanford University on health technologies. His comments on his return are as follows:

BYD has overtaken Tesla to become the largest electric car manufacturer. The China-based company sold close to 1.9 million vehicles in 2022.
Explanation after Google visit:
“Google is one of the 5 biggest global companies in technology. They direct the development of technology and the information sector in the world with very different solutions. There, we met with the artificial intelligence team and Turkish executives. What can we do about artificial intelligence with our Turkish friends working there?
We consulted about how developers, startups, technology companies in Turkey can use Google’s solutions, and what we can build on those solutions. It was a nice productive meeting. In fact, we had an eye-opening consultation on how we can apply the solutions they have developed in Turkey, especially for the automotive industry.“
Statement after the Tesla visit:
“A startup like Togg also got Tesla executives excited. What got me excited in the meeting we had with our professors here was the following; The world no longer looks at things only as scientific research. It looks at how we can commercialize these scientific researches, how we can transform them into economic value, and how we can develop solutions for the benefit of humanity through a productization process.
We can initiate such initiatives between Turkey and the USA, we can realize acceleration programs. We will implement programs that will accelerate the relations between Turkey and the USA in both scientific and entrepreneurial fields in the coming period.“
Description of health technologies:
“We have our teacher Utkan at the head of this place. He is a teacher who came from Turkey with a scholarship from the Ministry of National Education, paid the scholarship, but did not forget Turkey, accepted hundreds of students from Turkey, taught them, and had initiatives in Turkey.
We discussed with them how we can make applications especially in the field of health in the coming period, how we can create a bridge between Turkey and San Francisco, how we can bring companies from Turkey with the acceleration program, how we can carry out some of the needed research and carry out joint projects in Turkey. There are currently 5 cancer early detection research centers in the world, we discussed whether we can establish one of them in Turkey and be included in this network.“
