The team found that each time the key was pressed to open the door, certain codes were more likely to work to gain access to the vehicle.
The team states that the receiver inside the vehicle works with a “scrolling code window”. Each time the button is pressed, the rolling code sync counter runs so that certain commands are sent in a sequential order. In this way, thieves can synchronize their codes and access commands that can be used to access the vehicle.
The researchers note that anyone with a particular brand of vehicle may be at risk. It is also stated that the threat can affect the vehicles of other brands and Honda does not have a solution at the moment. It is even claimed that the brand did not notice this problem.
The researchers stated that they tried to submit a report to the Japanese manufacturer, but could not find a suitable way for it. Afterwards, the team stated that they contacted Honda Customer Service and stated that they received a negative response from Honda.
