After thousands of users around the world said that Microsoft Defender had given false notifications for the Google Chrome update, the statement from Microsoft was not delayed. The Microsoft 365 Defender advisory revealed that malicious flagging was accidentally triggered.

Stating that Defender for Endpoint showed wrong results, but the necessary correction was made quickly, Microsoft said, Google Chrome update is not dangerous expressed. Although the bug in the service has been fixed, users who have moved the Chrome update to quarantine must manually do the migration back.

“Users may receive a false alert for Google Update in Microsoft Defender for devices monitored by Endpoint. We determined these were incorrect results and have updated the alert to address the issue customers may be experiencing.”
