MediaTek will produce PC processors! ARM failover on Windows

The ARM-based processors in our mobile phones have become so powerful that they can be used in computers. Especially the ARM-based Apple M series processors were revolutionary in the computer world. With its low power consumption and high performance, the M series revealed the power of mobile. Windows has been waiting for a breakthrough in this regard for a while.

ARM Age begins on Windows

Upon the success of Apple’s ARM move, the technology world turned its attention to the Windows PC side. Some mobile processor manufacturers have also started to prepare ARM chips for Windows. MediaTek, one of the leading names in the industry, is at the forefront of these.

Although MediaTek is the leader in the smartphone market, it wants to expand its volume. The company announced its plans for the future at the event it held. The managers’ discourse is that they see a huge $40 billion opportunity in the PC market.

Chromebooks take precedence:

MediaTek’s first target on the PC side will be Google Chromebooks. The company, which has already launched two processors for daily use for Chromebooks, will continue these processors. “We have to make bigger investments in the PC part for the CPU and GPU,” said Vince Hu, Vice President of MediaTek.

In addition, MediaTek designs the processor chips on the PC side, unlike Qualcomm. As an advantage of this, we can see ARM-based computers produced at lower cost. This operation of MediaTek will be led by Adam King, who has more than ten years of experience at Intel.

Why are ARM-based PCs important?

Before Apple Slicon, there were ARM-based PC trials, but generally negative results. With the development of technology, lower battery consumption, better heat control compared to performance are among the main advantages of ARM. In addition, unlike the x86 architecture, younger ARM can work more optimized with new applications.
