The war between the two major processor manufacturers, MediaTek and Qualcomm, seems to get even more heated. Because MediaTek’s new monster, Dimensity 9300, appears as a solid alternative to Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the benchmark tests. Let’s take a look at the details together.
Benchmark test shows Android phones are getting pretty close to iPhones
Positioned as a rival to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Dimensity 9300 uses Cortex X4 and A720 cores and neglects the A520 cores, which are called ‘efficiency cores’.
Benchmark test results of MediaTek Dimensity 9300 on Vivo X100 Pro are as follows:
Category | Vivo X100 Pro | iQOO 12 | iPhone 15 Pro Max |
CrossMark (General) | 1177 | 1324 | 1401 |
Productivity | 1216 | 1302 | 1404 |
Creativity | 1143 | 1320 | 1573 |
Sensitivity | 1186 | 1404 | 984 |
Geekbench 6 (Single Core) | 2220 | 2252 | 2950 |
Geekbench 6 (Multi-Core) | 7258 | 6952 | 7381 |
3DMark Wild Life Extreme (Score) | 4610 | 4329 | 3648 |
3DMark Wild Life Extreme (FPS) | 27.60 | 25.92 | 21.9 |
3DMark Solar Bay (Score) | 7600 | 8042 | 5024 |
3DMark Solar Bay (FPS) | 28.9 | 32.33 | 19.1 |
The Dimensity 9300 scores slightly lower in Geekbench’s single-core test. This is due to the Cortex X4 core running at 3.25GHz. Since Qualcomm runs its prime core at 3.30 GHz, this gives a subtle advantage. But the iPhone A17 Pro is still at the top, with a score 30% higher than the Dimensity 9300.
However, by using larger cores, MediaTek allows the Dimensity 9300 to beat Qualcomm in multi-core workloads, a difference of 4.3%. But what’s particularly interesting is that the Dimensity 9300 comes close to the A17 Pro’s scores by a margin of 1.6%. So Android phones are now getting closer to Apple.
Gaming performance is the area with the biggest difference in the Dimensity 9300’s ability to deliver sustained performance over longer periods of time compared to its predecessor. However, Adreno 750 is still generally advantageous because it does not throttle early and does not heat up as much.
In 3DMark’s Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, the Dimensity 9300’s stability score was recorded at 46%, which is significantly lower compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s score of 55%.
The temperature rose up to 48 degrees, which shows that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 lost against the 43-degree heating. What are you thinking? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
