Magdeburg – The parents knew their schizophrenic son was a ticking time bomb. After death threats, they sought help several times and pleaded for his admission to a psychiatric ward. Nobody reacted – until Jan K. (38) drove amok with the wheel loader in two districts of Aschersleben.

On Tuesday, the son was in a security case before the Magdeburg district court – for attempted manslaughter. Chief Public Prosecutor Martina Klein accuses K. of wanting to kill his stepfather Klaus K. (58) with a wheel loader on May 22nd.

The stepfather in tears in court: “In Dohndorf, Jan drove the wheel loader towards a car in which my wife was sitting with three grandchildren.” He lowered the shovel and rammed the car. Fortunately, none of them were injured.

Jan K. continued the rampage and is said to have headed the wheel loader directly towards the stepfather in Mehringen. He saved himself by jumping to the side. In court, Jan K. denied the intention to kill, stated on the record: “I just wanted to give my stepfather a lesson.”

Klaus K. went on to say that his stepson, inter alia, Threatened neighbors with a knife and made brutal death threats against his mother. Jan K. came several times briefly to the psychiatry in Bernburg.

“My wife was scared,” said the stepfather. The mother wrote several emails and letters to Jan’s supervisor and to the court, pleading for her son to be permanently admitted. But supervisor Eike M. (47) was of the opinion that Jan K. was not a threat and did not submit an application.
