Dusseldorf Playing the piano can make you happy and trains the brain, especially memory can benefit in the long term. In addition, for many people, mastering an instrument is the epitome of creative expression – and this is precisely where artificial intelligence (AI) is supposed to help.

The Berlin start-up Flowkey wants to make it easier to get started with its online learning program. Because the beginning of the learning process can be tedious and deterring: Those interested in music have to practice reading music and learn a lot by heart. In addition, most piano books mainly contain older pieces that are of little interest to younger learners.

The Flowkey app promises users that they can practice their favorite songs directly, even without reading sheet music. The Berlin start-up uses AI technologies and works together with the piano manufacturer Yamaha. Anyone who buys an instrument from the brand gets a three-month trial subscription from Flowkey. Yamaha describes the app on the website as “the ideal companion to start playing the piano”.
