Lawrence Sullivan, also known as the ‘Florida Joker’, claimed in his statement on social media that Rockstar Games, the creators of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), owed 1-2 million dollars due to the claim that he was compared to him in the trailer of the game.
The thing about all games, including GTA 6, is that they are parodies of real life.
A trademark of the GTA series, the trailer parodies various viral clips on social media, but Sullivan remains convinced that a particular character in the game bears an uncanny resemblance to him.
Sullivan gained fame after mugshots of him with his distinctive dyed hair and facial tattoos went viral, and he was nicknamed the ‘Florida Joker’. The purple hair and similar tattoos around the eyes and cheeks of the character in question in the GTA 6 trailer are reminiscent of Sullivan insistently saying, “This is me. That’s who they’re inspired by. This is mine. This made him say, “This is me.”

In a video shared on social media, he insisted that Rockstar Games should engage in a dialogue or pay him a hefty compensation, saying, “You all took my likeness. “You all took my life,” he said.
This request for financial compensation is not a first for Rockstar Games. Earlier, during the launch of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), actress Lindsay Lohan had tried to sue the company for allegedly using her likeness for a minor character in the game. However, the court rejected Lohan’s claims in 2018 and deemed the character a “generic young woman.” Sullivan has not taken legal action against Rockstar Games, at least as of now.
As the debate continues, questions arise about the intersection of individuals in the real world and fictional characters in video games. The fact that the GTA 6 trailer depicted a Vice City as chaotic as its real-world counterpart Florida suggests that Sullivan’s complaints may not be the latest in a series of similarity-related controversies for the game.
Time will tell whether Sullivan’s claim has any legal basis. He was also answered by Roger Clark, who played Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2: “They will never contact you. “Take this chance of fame they gave you and give up $2 million.”
