We can see if there is a fault line in the area where we live or work. Moreover, by detecting the fault line closest to the street, we can understand in advance how much risk we will be at in a possible earthquake and take precautions.

Let’s point out that there are many options for this, such as the 2 methods that we will share below. But this will only give you an idea of ​​how close you can be to the epicenter of the earthquake. For real precaution, we should have the authorities test the structural integrity of our buildings.

Seeing fault lines on the website of the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration

• First, by clicking here, we go to the relevant page of the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration.
  • If you wish, you can search for “MTA Geosciences” via the search engine or you can reach the relevant site by typing the address of yerbilimleri.mta.gov.tr ​​in the address bar.

• In step 2, we tick the box next to the word “Dirifay” on the left.
• It will reflect the updated data on the map in a short time.
• You can search for the relevant region by typing the neighborhood and street information in the Search Location section on the upper right.
• If you wish, you can view all of Turkey on the map as free roaming.

• It is possible to clearly see the fault line, which is 750 meters away from İzmir Atatürk Stadium, in the image above. We see that this fault starts from the coast and passes under many important areas such as the D300 highway.
