Internet Usage Rates of Children in Turkey Announced

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has published the results of the “Information Technologies Use Survey for Children in 2021”. The results showed the internet usage rate and habits of children aged 6-15 in Turkey.

Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has published the results of the “Information Technologies Use Research for Children in 2021”, which shows the internet and device usage habits of children aged 6-15. The research conducted within the scope of the Household Information Technologies Usage Survey on March 29 – May 21, when the impact of COVID-19 continued, was carried out in 2021. 82.7% of children use the internet revealed.

According to the shared data, the rate of boys using the internet regularly was 98.9%, and the rate of girls was 98.4%. At the beginning of the activities carried out by children in this age group via the Internet Attending online course with 86.2% took place. This was followed by the activities of applying to the internet for homework or learning with 83.6%, playing or downloading games with 66.1%, watching videos from sharing sites with 61%, and making audio/video calls over the internet with 55.5%.

31.3% of children in Turkey use the internet for social media:

The research also showed the use of social media in the 6-15 age group. Accordingly, regular internet users 31.3% of children stated that they use the internet for social media. Children used social media for an average of 2 hours 54 minutes a day on weekdays and 2 hours and 44 minutes on weekends.

The rate of playing digital games for boys in the 6.15 age group was 46.1%, and 25.4% for girls.

94.7% of children stated that they regularly play digital games almost every day or at least once a week.

  • 26% are sports games,
  • 19.1% stated that they play role-playing games.

58.4% of the children stated that they thought their parents were playing too many games about them. 47.3% of them play more games than the planned time, 42.6% of them think that playing more games cause disruption of their responsibilities, 42.3% of them spend too much time playing games and 28% of them feel restless and unhappy when they don’t play. He explained how he felt.

Screen time reduces time spent on other activities:

  • 33.5% study less,
  • 27.7% of them spend less time with their family,
  • 25.4% meet and play with their friends face-to-face less and
  • 17.2% declared that they slept less.
