Popular social media platform Instagramcontinues to grow in the number of users. This growth brings with it security problems. Meta, the owner of Instagram, announced that it has made the age verification feature with video available.
Instagram opens age verification feature with video
Instagram continues to take new steps to increase the security of users. The platform previously had the option to upload IDs. After this feature was insufficient, the company determined two methods to verify the age of users. The first of these methods is to shoot videos, and the second is to vouch for the account owner.
Instagram has launched the feature where users can verify their age by shooting a video in the European Union and the United Kingdom. In other words, users in this country will be able to verify their age by uploading a video as well as uploading their ID.
Meta announced the number of active users of Instagram!
In Meta’s report for the third quarter of 2022, the number of active users for Instagram was announced. The platform has doubled down on itself after four years!
Videos taken by users for verification will be analyzed by digital identity initiative Yoti and an estimated age will be offered. The company said that after the video is analyzed, it will be deleted from both Yoti systems and Instagram.
It is not yet known when the age verification feature by shooting video will come to our country. With the new option, the company aims for users to see content suitable for them.
“We want everyone to experience Instagram in an age-appropriate way, which means we need to know how old they are, and it’s a challenge for those in our industry,” said Tara Hopkins, director of policy at Instagram.
Instagram uses in-app artificial intelligence to predict users’ ages. However, according to reports, the results are not very successful. It is worth noting that the platform has a 13-year age limit.
