Inflation: Federal government under pressure – further relief?

Berlin In view of rising prices, the pressure on the traffic light coalition to support companies and citizens with further state aid is growing. “There must be another relief package,” said Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) to the Handelsblatt. The expectation of a meeting initiated by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) with representatives of business, trade unions and the Bundesbank on Monday in the Chancellery is correspondingly high.

Scholz announced the so-called concerted action at the beginning of June to discuss joint measures against high inflation with the aim of preventing a wage-price spiral. In a video podcast on Saturday, the chancellor said with regard to the meeting with the social partners: “We have to join hands and stick together.”

The big problem, which rightly concerns many citizens at the moment, is the rising prices. “And we have to act together there, too,” warned the Chancellor.
