The mayor, Larreta, said that the Buenos Aires city government will not receive crypto money payments directly from the citizens, but the taxes will reach them, converted into Argentine pesos by the ‘leading’ crypto money companies.

Rodríguez Larreta made the following statements on the subject:

“Your city’s public accounts will not have cryptocurrencies. As part of our agreement with virtual wallets, we will have added a new payment option to the existing payment options for easier transactions.

Diego Fernández, the city’s secretary of innovation and digital transformation, told the press that the tax payment service with cryptocurrencies will launch in the coming months.

Fernández also reported that local cryptocurrency exchanges SatoshiTango, Buenbit, Ripio, Belo and Mexico-based Bitso will also be part of the new venture.

Recently, the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro also announced that from 2023, municipal property tax can be paid with cryptocurrencies.

In March, the city of Buenos Aires released technical documentation on a Blockchain-based digital identity platform that would allow residents to gain control over their personal data.

In his statement at that time, Fernandez said that this platform will be operational between the last quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

According to the mayor Larreta’s statements, the digital identity platform will include vaccine certificates and COVID-19 test results.
