“Important role” of China in the Ukraine conflict

Beijing, Berlin, Paris China’s head of state and party leader Xi Jinping applauds with satisfaction when Chinese and French business representatives sign contracts in Beijing. French President Emmanuel Macron, on the other hand, seems rather sobered. His claim, expressed before the trip, was to find a way towards a peace solution in Ukraine with Beijing.

Macron and the trade delegation that traveled with him received primarily business deals. However, he did not receive any concessions from Xi on Ukraine. The Chinese head of state is said to have merely declared his willingness to telephone Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky if “time and circumstances are right”.

It was a special visit by Macron to the Chinese capital. He and EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen traveled to Beijing at the same time and, in addition to bilateral talks, also had joint talks with China’s head of state and party leader Xi Jinping – a novelty.
