Berlin Saad Sherida al-Kaabi is a welcome guest in many countries these days. Qatar’s energy minister, who is also the head of the state-owned company QatarEnergy, has what many would like: liquefied natural gas (LNG). During his visit to Berlin, he met representatives of the federal government and entrepreneurs who want to buy Qatari natural gas.

It is important to the energy minister that his country diversifies the buyers of LNG: “Just as the buyers want to diversify their sources of supply, we attach great importance to the diversification of our buyers. I don’t want to sell all our gas to Germany,” he told Handelsblatt.

Al-Kaabi holds out the prospect of significantly increasing production capacities: “If you add up the production increases from our projects in Qatar and the USA, you get 65 million tons a year. So we’re close to doubling our production,” he said. According to him, the first additional quantities from the US project will be available from 2024.
