How the state relieves parents

Berlin If parents are looking for financial support from the state, they quickly come across two classic options: child benefit and parental benefit. But there are also a number of other levers for families to receive grants or deduct expenses from taxes. In the current episode, financial editor Laura de la Motte explains how parents should proceed so that state aid is as high as possible.

For example, to get a higher net parental allowance, precautions are important months before the birth. “As soon as you hold the positive pregnancy test in your hands, you should change your tax class,” advises de la Motte.

Once the child is born, parents can save even more by claiming special expenses in their tax return: “Anyone who has children under the age of 14 and care costs should always fill out the child appendix.” also the pocket money for an au pair or travel expenses for babysitters to the special expenses.
