Communication sector in Turkey grew by 21 percent

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that in the first quarter of this year, the net sales revenues of enterprises operating in the communication sector increased by 21 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 25.5 billion liras. Pointing out that investments in internet infrastructure continue and 478 thousand kilometers of fiber infrastructure has been reached, Karaismailoğlu announced that the amount of mobile traffic is 76 billion minutes.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the “Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report” prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK).
Noting that the growth in the communication sector continued in the first quarter of this year, Karaismailoğlu noted that as of the first quarter, 444 companies authorized by BTK had 801 authorization certificates.

Announcing that the net sales revenues of the operators operating in the sector increased by 21 percent in the first quarter compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 25.5 billion liras, Karaismailoğlu underlined that the number of mobile subscribers reached 87.4 million.

Emphasizing that the total amount of mobile traffic was 76 billion minutes in the first quarter of this year, Karaismailoğlu said, “The prevalence of mobile subscribers was 103.2 percent. It is seen that 81.3 million of mobile subscribers prefer 4.5G subscription, which started service in 2016, and 4.5G service constitutes 93 percent of total subscribers. The number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers exceeded 7.9 million. While the total number of mobile numbers ported reached 160 million, a total of 2.4 million number porting transactions were carried out on fixed lines.

Underlining that the total number of broadband internet subscribers reached 88.8 million, 70.5 million of which are mobile, Karaismailoğlu stated that the number of subscribers increased by 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said, “Compared to the same period of the previous year, the highest increase was experienced in the number of wireless-wireless fixed internet service subscribers with approximately 70 percent.

In the first quarter of 2022, we reached 478 thousand kilometers of fiber infrastructure. The number of fiber internet subscribers has exceeded 5 million with an annual increase of 21 percent. The usage of broadband internet subscribers also increased significantly in the first quarter of 2022. The average monthly usage of fixed broadband internet subscribers was 229 GByte, while the average monthly usage of mobile broadband internet subscribers was 12.6 GByte.

Compared to the previous quarter; There was an increase of 12 percent in the monthly average usage of fixed broadband internet subscribers and around 15 percent in the monthly average usage of mobile broadband internet subscribers.
