Honorary Inspectors’ Parking Fine Authority Has Been Restricted

With a new decision, Istanbul General Directorate of Security (EGM) restricted the authority of honorary inspectors to write parking tickets.

Honorary traffic inspectors are selected from among people who meet many conditions, such as having a driver’s license for at least 10 years and being a college graduate. persons who have some authority in highway control. One of these people’s powers was to write parking tickets.

However, it seems that complaints about honorary traffic inspectors’ ability to write parking tickets have increased recently. EGM, on the other hand, restricted the authority of honorary inspectors to write parking tickets, citing increasing complaints. According to the decision taken by the EGM Traffic Services Directorate, honorary inspectors are now only in case of violation of disabled parking spaces can write a penalty.

Making a statement regarding the decision taken by the EGM, Sami Güleçyüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Honorary Traffic Inspectors Association, stated that the honorary inspectors were against the decision and used the following statements:

“Within the scope of the duty given to honorary traffic inspectors, fines can be imposed on some articles according to the highway traffic law. Some of these are penalties for ensuring the fluidity of traffic and ensuring traffic order. Some of them are penalties for preventing accidents. Parking tickets and stop tickets are suspended for now. From now on, the focus will be on penalties aimed at preventing other accidents. Honorary traffic inspectors are against the suspension of this authority. The fact that this issue has been suspended for now does not mean that there will be no inspection. “This parking problem will be monitored more closely by law enforcement forces and our traffic police, thanks to electronic monitoring.”
