Honda to produce electric car battery with LG

Introducing the first electric SUV model in the past days, Honda accelerated its work for environmentally friendly car models. Cooperating with LG Energy Solution, Honda will produce electric car batteries.

Honda, which wants to produce more electric cars, announced that it will make changes in its three factories in Ohio. The company will also start battery production in the USA, with an investment of 700 million dollars in electric cars.

Announcing that they prefer Ohio for battery production, the companies will invest $3.5 billion for the start. Declaring that the total investment will reach 4.4 billion dollars, Honda is preparing to meet automobile enthusiasts with its new battery technologies.

The details of the partnership announced in the second quarter of 2022 were not clear. Honda, which wants to increase its market share, underlined that they will start the construction of the new facility in 2023 and that they plan to complete it in about 1 year.

Flat type Lithium-ion battery will be produced in the production facility, which is stated to have a capacity of 40GWh. It is estimated that the first production will take place in 2025.

Announcing that it will start selling electric vehicles in the North American market in 2026, Honda will use the Honda e:Architecture platform in its new models. The cars to be produced will have batteries produced jointly with LG Energy Solution.

Announcing its plans for renewable energy, the company announced that it will achieve zero emission targets by 2050. Honda will only produce electric vehicles from 2040.
