Instagram is preparing to intervene in hate crime!
Instagram has rolled up its sleeves to fight hate crime. The company announced a series of new measures with its statement recently.
Meta Turkey, which prepared a social media report upon the request of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, answered the questions of the deputies of the commission. In the report, the company underlined that they have a language and cultural team to control the content in Turkey, and clearly stated that they will not allow any content that does not comply with the rules of the community.
Explaining the process, Meta explained that when a notification about the shares is received, they examine the situation according to the community rules of the platform in question, and if a violation is detected, they delete the relevant content. However, it was also underlined that the process is universal and the incoming requests do not change the rules. The full explanation on the subject is as follows:
When we receive a notification, we first review it against the Facebook Community Standards or Instagram Community Guidelines. If we determine that the content violates our policies, we will remove it. In line with our commitments as a member of the Global Network Initiative and our Corporate Human Rights Policy, if the content does not violate our policies, we will conduct a careful legal review, as well as a human rights review, to confirm the validity of the notice.
We may request clarification or take no action if we believe the notices are not legally valid, are excessive, or do not comply with international human rights standards. In every situation; We consider the impact of our decisions on access to expression through our products. When we act against organic content based on local legislation rather than our Community Standards, we restrict access to content only in the country where it is claimed to be illegal and do not impose any other penalties or feature restrictions.
Another question answered in the report was the security of personal information. The company, which offers various opportunities for people to report images that they think violate their privacy rights, also underlined that they want to make the platform a safer environment in every aspect as part of the Facebook Protect program.
