Health insurance companies with record minus for 2021, AOK quadruples deficit

Berlin The financial imbalance of the statutory health insurance companies has dramatically worsened in the past year. This is the result of preliminary data from the largest health insurance associations, which is available to the Handelsblatt and will be presented by the Federal Ministry of Health in March.

Accordingly, the deficit should have increased to 5.7 billion euros last year. In 2020, the deficit had already grown significantly to 2.7 billion euros.

The Association of Substitute Health Insurance Funds (VDEK) reported a minus of 576 million euros for the past year. The association includes the Techniker Krankenkassen, Barmer and the DAK. The minus of the guild health insurance funds rose from 250 million to almost 409 million euros in 2021.
