Have you noticed the GTA reference in Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077’s sole and final expansion, Phantom Liberty, released on September 26, 2023, brought players more than just a new story and location to explore. Some players have uncovered a reference to another iconic open-world game known for its fictional depiction of California.

Reference to GTA San Andreas discovered in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

In one of the first scenes of Phantom Liberty, the player-controlled character V needs to make a crucial phone call to advance the plot. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed a series of cryptic numbers scratched into the phone during this scene: 2 x 9, 1 x 9 L, 1 x 6, 1 x 7, and 2 x 45. This seemingly random sequence of numbers appears in GTA: San Andreas The same legendary fast food order placed by Big Smoke.

For those familiar with San Andreas, the fast-food parody place Cluckin’ Bell was the subject of a mission in which Big Smoke placed an epic and unforgettable order: “Two size 9s, one size 9 large, one size 6 with extra sauce , one size 7, two size 45s, one with cheese and a large soda.” The fact that Phantom Liberty pays homage to this iconic moment from another beloved game is a nice touch for players.

Cyberpunk 2077 is known for its abundance of video game references and easter eggs, and Phantom Liberty is no exception. The game had previously made references to CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3 game, and this expansion pack continues this tradition. Notably, the same phone used for encrypted numbers in Phantom Liberty can be used to call other cute gaming references, like The Witcher 3’s theme.
