Germany has been importing more French electricity since April

Berlin, Paris When numerous nuclear power plants failed in France last year, the country found itself in the unusual situation of being dependent on massive electricity imports. Germany stepped in and supplied its neighbor with more electricity than ever before. In the first three months of this year, the Federal Republic remained an exporter of electricity to France.

This relationship has now abruptly reversed. As data from the French network operator RTE shows, the French have been delivering significantly more electricity to Germany on most days since mid-April. The figures from the Federal Network Agency also make it clear that the Federal Republic was still a net electricity exporter in electricity trading with its “electrical neighbors” (i.e. the countries of Northwest and Central Europe) from January to March – in the months of April and May, on the other hand, Germany was on electricity from the dependent abroad.
