German financial institutions stop making payments to VTB Bank Europe

Frankfurt According to financial circles, the second largest Russian bank VTB is no longer allowed to collect funds from private investors with its European subsidiary. The supervisory authorities had issued a deposit freeze, several people familiar with the topic told the Handelsblatt.

A spokesman for VTB Bank Europe declined to comment. So far, the institute had only announced that it was not taking on any new customers for the time being. On its website, the bank stated that it was still “fully operational”. Your economic situation is stable. VTB Bank Europe “is not currently subject to any sanctions from the European Union” and is a full member of the global payment system Swift, it said.

The financial regulator Bafin also did not want to comment on the subject. Last week, the authority stated that it was “in close contact” with the institute due to the current situation.
