Berlin, Dusseldorf Russia is sending less and less natural gas to Germany. Since Wednesday, just 20 percent of the possible quantities have flowed through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. At the center of what is probably the biggest gas crisis in German history: a turbine from Siemens Energy. And a German government whose hands are tied.
Because the West may not be able to react to Russia’s threats until the end of August, when the next gas payment to the country is pending. In the meantime, neither Germany nor the EU have any leverage.
The turbine epic begins in mid-June. Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that deliveries via Nord Stream 1 will be reduced to 40 percent. “Technical defects” are to blame, you have no influence on them. The problem is rather the Germans and their company Siemens Energy.
