Galeria owner Benko dominates the real estate market with big deals

Dusseldorf The news made people sit up and take notice in March: The Signa Holding of the Austrian billionaire René Benko sold half of the prime property of the KaDeWe department store in Berlin to the Thai Central Group. Current market figures from the real estate agent Colliers now show that the sale was also the largest single deal on the commercial real estate market in Germany in the first half of the year.

Signa is currently cleaning up its portfolio and consolidating its inventory. The real estate holding of the Galeria owner sold, among other things, the 40 remaining properties of the furniture chain Kika/Leiner to the real estate company Supernova of the German investor Frank Albert. In May, Signa also sold a commercial building on Kärntner Strasse in Vienna where Apple is renting.

But Signa also attracted attention in Germany with other spectacular deals. And these had clear consequences for the market, as can now be seen.
