From the President to the Doctors: If They Go, Let them Go

While the brain drain on Turkey’s painful agenda, which has not been brought to the agenda, continues to increase day by day, President Erdoğan made a controversial statement today. Erdogan said about the doctors, “If they go, let them go”.

Worsening living conditions and wages continuing to deteriorate against inflation and the dollar, caused many skilled workers to leave the country and it continues to increase. While this situation is obvious, one of the sectors that scares the future of Turkey and where brain drain abroad is experienced most intensely is the health sector.

While the brain drain of Turkish doctors was headlined all over the world in the past weeks, today it is about the subject. President Erdogan also made a statement. Erdogan made controversial remarks in his statement about doctors leaving Turkey. The President’s statement about the doctors was as follows:

“We also employ our doctors who have just graduated from universities”

“Something else has come out recently; That’s what happens in hospitals. Look, we can make mistakes. Who built these huge city hospitals? Doctors are leaving because they receive little money, my dear brothers and sisters, I am speaking sincerely, a friend tells the truth but tells the truth; we are the ones who built these hospitals. Isn’t this the state that educates these doctors? TO? This state has educated you, and the most expensive one is health. But now he was paying little. I asked, what takes the least space? 8 thousand 9 thousand, the highest area is around 25 thousand. Despite this, do they run away because the private sector gives much higher rates? I speak frankly, I like to speak frankly. If they are going, let them go. We employ our doctors who have just graduated from universities here, and we continue with them here. If necessary, we quickly invite those who want to return to our country from abroad. Don’t worry, they won’t be empty. It is probably not very humane to impose a saintly profession like a doctor there.”
