Four reasons why the high gas storage levels are deceptive

Berlin Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) and Klaus Müller, President of the Federal Network Agency, are pleased with the recent rapid increase in gas storage levels in Germany. “The reservoirs fill up faster than specified,” said Habeck. Mueller said saves were increasing at an “admirable rate.”

According to the storage operators, the storage facilities were 82.74 percent full on Saturday. The goal of reaching a value of 85 percent on October 1 seems to be within reach.

But there are voices advising caution. “In view of the recent rapid increase in storage levels, we warn against euphoria,” said Sebastian Bleschke, Managing Director of the Energy Storage Initiative (INES), in which the operators of natural gas storage facilities have joined forces, to the Handelsblatt.
