Dusseldorf Anyone who is currently trying to buy an electric car is usually put off. “This year? Impossible,” says many dealers. With the rise in petrol and diesel prices, the demand for electric cars has also increased. Many car buyers hope to benefit from the state purchase premium of 6,000 euros, which is expected to drop to 4,000 euros in the coming year.
While car sales in Germany shrank at the beginning of the year, electric models have recently seen a significant increase in registrations. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 14.5 percent more purely electric cars were registered in March 2022 than in the same month of the previous year. Their share of new registrations thus reached 14.3 percent.
