Dusseldorf Artificial intelligence (AI) has triggered a new dynamic in the stock market. There are winners, like the chip manufacturer Nvidia, but also losers, like the online tutoring provider Chegg. Since the beginning of May, its shares have fallen by almost 50 percent after the US group declared that the spread of the ChatGPT AI program was inhibiting customer growth.

Chegg shows that AI can lead to dramatic repricing of individual stocks. Investment bank Goldman Sachs estimates that around a quarter of current work can be automated using AI. Who are the companies that are expected to be among the winners, but who could also be among the losers in the future?

The Handelsblatt has evaluated many analysts’ assessments and tried to identify such papers. But simple answers are difficult. The five chosen examples of multi-billion dollar corporations show that for investors, the opportunities and risks associated with AI are closely related.
