Bitcoin (BTC) Hal Finney’s Twitter account, an important part of his culture and community, shows a new activity in order not to be deleted from the platform.
Finney passed away in 2014, and his inactive account became part of Bitcoin’s early history, which many struggled to keep alive.
It Turned Out That Finney’s Twitter Account, Which Is Important For Bitcoin, Was Activated Not to be Deleted
The activity in Finney’s account was spotted in a Tweet by prominent Bitcoin advocate and Casa CEO Jameson Lopp, who was unsure whether the account had been compromised. Finney’s wife, Fran, confirmed that she started tweeting from the account to prevent the account from being deleted.
Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted last week that the platform will soon begin deleting around 1.5 billion inactive accounts.
UpOnly podcast host Cobie said:
“If @halfin (Hal Finney’s twitter account) is automatically deleted via a public app, it would be extremely sad. A lot of history will be lost with this rule.”
This isn’t the first time Finney’s account is facing the possibility of being deleted. Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey made an exception for Finney’s account in 2019 when Twitter began removing accounts that had been inactive for more than six months.
Hal Finney is best known for being the recipient of the world’s first Bitcoin transfer transaction by BTC founder Satoshi Nakamoto.
On the other hand, Hal Finney is also alleged to be Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto. Even though Finney is dead, he is the strongest Nakamoto candidate.
According to a tweet from Messari founder Ryan Selkis, Finney identified early on both of the biggest challenges that Bitcoin will face in its lifetime. These challenges he envisioned were to give BTC more anonymity and reduce CO2 emissions.
