Berlin After the MV shipyards filed for insolvency, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) promised the around 1,900 employees the help of the federal government. “We will make every effort to support the employees at the Wismar, Stralsund and Rostock locations in this difficult situation and to help give them prospects,” says a letter from Lindner to the chairwoman of the general works council, Ines Scheel According to a preliminary report (Friday editions) of the editorial network Germany (RND).

According to Lindner, state aid could have been provided for the company via the Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF). However, this would have required a personal contribution from the owner and his shareholders. “Unfortunately, the owner refused to pay the necessary personal contribution and the associated commitment to the MV Werften did not materialize,” explained the minister.

In addition, the owners and shareholders were not willing to give the federal government adequate security to minimize the risk of default. This is very unfortunate, because according to the Federal Government, the funds would have been available. “This refusal attitude removed the basis for further state aid,” wrote the FDP politician.

The MV shipyards at locations in Rostock, Wismar and Stralsund and the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven had filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of the week. Previously, no solution for further financing had been found in negotiations between the federal and state governments with the owner Genting from Hong Kong.
