Berlin The traffic light coalition partners have clarified the last controversial issues for the design of the Building Energy Act (GEG). In government circles it was said on Friday that there is now a unified version of the GEG draft. The cabinet is expected to pass the law on April 19 or 26. The state and association hearing is to begin shortly.

The aim of the law is to help renewable energies achieve a breakthrough in the heating sector and thus reduce CO2 emissions. From January 1, 2024, only heating systems that are operated with at least 65 percent renewable energy will be allowed to be installed. This regulation means the de facto end for pure gas and oil heating systems. Speculations that the entry into force of the regulation could be postponed by another year have not been confirmed.
