Fear of a war with Russia is growing in Moldova.

Berlin, Brussels The first flee. Cars and small trucks are jammed at the checkpoint between Transnistria and the Moldovan motherland, they just want to get out. Or, as the independent Moldovan journalist Alina Radu writes on Twitter: “They don’t want to be ‘liberated’ by Russia.”

The war is getting closer and closer to Ukraine’s small neighbor, Moldova is in a state of emergency, and the tension is unbearable. For example, there are these photos on social media. Two transmission masts, which date back to the Soviet era and previously transmitted Russian programs, have snapped off. Authorities in the Transnistria region, which breaks away from Moldova, blame Ukraine.

Then again, there are reports of explosions at State Security headquarters in Tiraspol, the capital of the self-proclaimed republic. Terror, the authorities claim. Then there is the rumor that the president of the breakaway region has announced a general mobilization.
