With an announcement the decision to succeed the outgoing Bundesbank chief Jens Weidmann is apparently not expected in the next few days. “All things are well prepared and are prepared for a long time,” said Chancellor-designate Olaf Scholz on Monday at the presentation of the Social Democrats’ ministers.
As far as the institutions are concerned, “that will of course not take place now before the formation of the government”, but only when it is on the agenda. Scholz is likely to be elected by the German Bundestag as the new Chancellor and successor to Angela Merkel on Wednesday. It was recently heard from insiders of the traffic light coalition and in financial circles that Ex-Bundesbank board member Joachim Nagel has the best chances to the Weidmann successor.
